Prakash Ambedkar Leads Charge in Maharashtra's Reservation Battle with Statewide Rally

The ongoing reservation issue in Maharashtra has seen increasing tension between the Maratha and OBC communities. This issue is becoming crucial as the upcoming assembly elections approach. Amidst this heated atmosphere, Adv. Prakash Ambedkar, president of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA), has taken a significant step by initiating a 'Reservation Rescue Rally.'

Reservation Rescue Rally Kicks Off

Starting from Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, the rally will traverse multiple districts in the state. The journey will make its way from Mumbai to Mahatma Phule Wada in Pune, and then through Kolhapur, Sangli, Solapur, Latur, Dharashiv, Beed, Parbhani, Nanded, Yavatmal, Amravati, Akola, Jalna, Buldhana, and finally Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. A major public meeting is planned at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on August 7, marking the culmination of the rally.

Call for Harmony and Awareness

Adv. Prakash Ambedkar emphasized the need for maintaining harmony in Maharashtra during a press conference in Mumbai. He stated that the 'Reservation Rescue Yatra,' starting on July 25, aims to foster reconciliation and prevent unrest in the state.

Fear Among the OBC Community

Adv. Ambedkar highlighted the fear within the OBC community, particularly among the smaller sections. He pointed out recent attacks on small OBC leaders and the boycott of their shops, creating a highly volatile situation. In response, the VBA has invited OBC leaders and organizations across Maharashtra to join the rally. Notably, opposition leader Sharad Pawar has also been invited.

VBA's Stance on Kunbi Certificates

Adv. Ambedkar has demanded the cancellation of Kunbi caste certificates issued without applications, calling for political parties to clarify their positions on the reservation issue. He criticized the "sage soyare" (blood relatives) notification, stating that it adulterates the quota and has been previously rejected by courts. This notification, advocated by activist Manoj Jarange, seeks to grant Kunbi certificates to Marathas, making them eligible for quota benefits.

Rally Details and Objectives

The 'Aarakshan Bachao Janyatra' will raise awareness about the demand for doubling SC/ST scholarships and extending the same to OBC students, as well as promoting job opportunities for these communities. The rally will also pressure political parties to take a definitive stand on the reservation issue.

Future of the Agitation

While activist Manoj Jarange's rallies have seen significant attendance, the direction of his agitation remains uncertain. Adv. Ambedkar has called on Jarange to clarify whether he stands with the wealthy Maratha community or the impoverished segments. The VBA maintains that the Kunbi reservation is intact and any additional reservations must be properly applied for and obtained through the correct channels.

Path Ahead

As the 'Aarakshan Bachao Janyatra' progresses through various districts, it aims to bring attention to the critical issues surrounding reservation and promote a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
